The BBC's A History of the World

The spare nosewheel from Britain’s first jet, the Gloster E28/39, is one of the starring items in our collection. It has now been selected as one of the exhibits from around the county to represent Gloucestershire’s contribution to the BBC’s A History of the World project.

You can learn more about the local artefacts included in the BBC's A History of the World project by visiting bbc.co.uk/gloucestershire and clicking on the A History of the World button low down on the left of the page.

This takes you to the page featuring the county’s choices, which in turn links to a page about our own exhibit - click on the picture below to view the page.

Vernon Harwood of BBC Radio Gloucestershire visited our Brockworth workshop on 1 February and interviewed Jet Age chairman John Lewer and trustee Tim Kershaw about the E28 wheel. There will be an edited version on the BBC Radio Gloucestershire website: go to the page featuring the county’s exhibits and click on Features and Stories - A History of the World: Extra on the right of the page.

Jet Age Museum exists to save and commemorate Gloucestershire’s outstanding aviation heritage.

For the past 20 years Jet Age has saved for posterity historic aircraft, other artefacts, documents and photographs.

The collection commemorates in particular the work and the people of the Gloster, Smiths and Dowty companies, as well as many other aspects of the county’s aviation history.

We have a significant archive of Gloster Aircraft Company documents and images and also manage the nationally-important Russell Adams Collection of historic aviation photographs and film

Although closed to visitors we have kept alive thanks to our fundraising activities, donations and the subscriptions of our  all-volunteer organisation
